Trulance approved by the FDA for the treatment of Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC) in adult patients. Trulance (plecanatide) works locally in the upper GI tract to stimulate secretion of intestinal fluid and support regular bowel function.
Facts about Trulance:
- Shouldn’t be used in children less than six years of age due to the risk of serious dehydration.
- Should be avoided in patients six years of age to 18 years of age.
- The safety and effectiveness have not been established in patients less than 18 years of age.
- Should not be used in patients with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction.
Diarrhea was the most common and serious side effect of Trulance. If severe diarrhea occurs, patients should stop taking Trulance and contact their health care provider.

What is Trulance?
Trulance is used in adults to treat a type of constipation called chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC). “Idiopathic” means the cause of the constipation is unknown. Once-daily Trulance may provide more regular, well-formed bowel movements for adults with CIC.
