LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Describe the pharmacologic properties and role of newer antipsychotic agents.

  2. Recognize differences between recent long acting injectable antipsychotics.

  3. Discuss newer treatment strategies for Alzheimer’s Disease.

  4. Identify recent treatment options for managing psychiatric complications in Alzheimer’s disease.

  5. Discuss traditional agents used to manage depression, anxiety and PTSD.

  6. Identify the role of newer agents in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

  7. Recognize cardio- vascular adverse effects of psychiatric medications.

  8. Discuss the impact of genetics on drug response and its role in the pharmacologic management of patients.

  9. Explain specific important pharmacokinetic variations with pharmacologic agents in the treatment of mood disorders.
